What will you learn with the A2 Spanish exercises?

A2-level exercises will help you expand the knowledge acquired in A1 and use Spanish in a greater number of everyday situations. At this level you will begin to talk about the past in more detail, express plans, compare, and build more natural sentences.

Practice will allow you to consolidate these structures and use them with greater confidence both when speaking and writing.

Talk about past experiences and events

In A2 you will learn to count what you have done, what happened, and how things were in the past using different verb tenses.

You will practice structures like “I have visited Barcelona several times.”, “I went to the movies yesterday” o “When I was little I lived in Italy” and you will begin to understand when to use each past tense.

Express yourself more precisely

As you progress in Spanish, you can build more complete sentences and avoid some repetitions. The direct and indirect object pronouns, comparatives and expressions of quantity will help you communicate in a more natural way.

For example, you will learn how to use structures like “I bought it yesterday”, “I have sent him a message”, “Madrid is bigger than my city” o “I have plenty of time”.

Talking about your plans and the future

You will also learn to express plans, intentions, and future actions using common structures in everyday conversations.

You will be able to talk about what you are going to do during the weekend, your upcoming vacation, or your personal plans: “This summer I am going to travel to Spain”, “Tomorrow I am studying in the afternoon” o “We are going out for dinner with some friends”.

What grammar topics are studied at the A2 level?

At the A2 level of Spanish, the basic structures learned in A1 are expanded and new resources are incorporated to talk about the past, plans, personal experiences, and usual situations of daily life.

A2 Spanish grammar allows you to build more complete sentences and start connecting different ideas. The goal is for you to communicate with greater autonomy in simple conversations and understand messages on familiar topics.

One of the most important topics of the A2 level is learning to talk about the past. You will practice the present perfect, the simple past, and the imperfect, and you will begin to distinguish their main uses.

For example: “This week I have studied hard”, “Yesterday I studied Spanish” o “When I was little, I studied English”.

In A2 you will learn to use direct and indirect object pronouns to avoid repetitions and construct more natural sentences.

You will work on ways such as him, her, it, the, them, you, to him, to her, to you y the, in addition to other pronouns like me, you, us y bones: “Have you seen Marta? Yes, I have seen her.” o “I have sent a message to Carlos”.

You will also learn different simple ways to talk about plans, intentions, and future actions.

One of the most important structures will be ir + infinitive, as in “I am going to study this afternoon” o “We are going to travel to Spain”. You will also practice the present tense to talk about already planned arrangements: “Tomorrow I have class at ten”.

At this level, you will expand the resources needed to compare people, places, objects, and situations.

You will practice structures like more... than, less... than y as... as, as well as superlatives and expressions of quantity such as much, little, quite a bit o too much.

For example: “Madrid is bigger than Toledo”, “This exercise is less difficult than the previous one.” o “I have too much work”.

A2 grammar has a fundamental objective: to help you communicate with greater autonomy in everyday situations of daily life.

At this level, you will be able to use the structures you have learned to recount experiences, talk about trips, explain what you did over the weekend, go shopping, describe events, compare options, or explain your upcoming plans.

It is not just about knowing new grammar rules, but about starting to combine what you have learned to express yourself more clearly in Spanish.

How to practice A2 Spanish?

To advance to the A2 level, it is important to combine the study of new structures with the review of what was learned in A1. As your Spanish improves, you will have to start connect different content and use them together in real-life situations.

Spanish A2 exercises will help you practice grammar, identify content that is still difficult for you, and gain confidence before moving on to the B1 level.

  • Practice verb tenses in context. Instead of solely memorizing conjugations, try to understand when and why each verb tense is used. For example, when practicing past tenses, pay attention to the differences between “he viajado”, “viajé”, and “viajaba”. Working with complete sentences and situations will help you choose the appropriate tense more naturally.
  • Pay attention to your most frequent mistakes. When you finish an exercise, review the questions you got wrong in particular. Identifying patterns in your mistakes will let you know which areas you need to reinforce. If you have difficulties with pronouns or past tenses, for example, return to those exercises after a few days and check if you have improved.
  • Combine grammar with real-life situations. Try using the structures you're learning to talk or write about your own life. You can talk about what you did yesterday, describe what your childhood was like, compare two cities, or explain what you're going to do next weekend. The more you connect grammar to real-life situations, the easier it will be to use it when you need to communicate in Spanish.
  • Review before advancing to the B1 level. You don't need to do everything perfectly to start studying B1-level material, but it's a good idea to have a solid foundation in A2 grammar. Before moving on, make sure you can use the fundamental structures of this level, and practice again any that you're still unsure about.
