The A1 Spanish exercises are designed to help you build a solid foundation in Spanish. You'll practise essential grammar structures and learn how to use them in simple, everyday situations.
As you complete the exercises, you'll learn to recognise basic structures, form your own sentences and communicate with greater confidence in Spanish.
You'll learn how to form Simple and Correct Sentences to introduce yourself, describe people and places, talk about your interests, or explain basic aspects of your daily life.
The exercises will help you become familiar with word order and common structures such as “Me llamo Anna”, “Soy estudiante”, “Vivo en Madrid” and “Me gusta la música”.
Verbs are essential for starting to communicate in Spanish. You'll practice to be, to exist, to have, to be named and other common verbs, in addition to the present indicative.
You'll learn how to use them to talk about yourself, other people, and everyday activities: “I’m 20 years old.”, “My friend is Italian”, “We study Spanish” o “I go to class in the morning.”.
At A1 level, you'll also learn how to ask and understand simple questions using words such as "qué", "quién", "dónde", "cuándo", "cómo" and "cuánto".
This will help you communicate in basic everyday situations: asking the price of something, requesting information, meeting someone, talking about schedules or asking where a place is.
A1 is the first level of Spanish according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). At this stage, the goal is to learn the basic structures you need to understand and use simple expressions in everyday situations.
A1 Spanish grammar includes essential topics such as the present tense, common verbs, articles, gender and number, and how to form questions. This knowledge will help you start building sentences and communicating in simple situations.
In A1, you'll learn how to use the present indicative tense of regular verbs ending in -ar, -er e -go, as well as some of the most common irregular verbs.
You'll also practise key verbs such as "ser", "estar", "tener", "ir", "hacer", "querer" and "poder", which you need to talk about personal information, routines, preferences and everyday activities.
Another key aspect is learning the gender and number of words and using definite and indefinite articles correctly: el, la, los, las, un, una, unos and unas.
You'll also start working on the agreement between nouns and adjectives to form expressions such as a small house, two Spanish friends o the new classes.
In Spanish, we use different verbs and structures to express characteristics, states, existence, location and possession. At A1 level, you'll begin to distinguish between their most common uses.
For example: Madrid is a big city, Ana está en casa, There's a supermarket nearby o I have two brothers.
You'll learn how to ask and answer simple questions in Spanish using question words such as "qué", "quién", "dónde", "cuándo", "cómo", "cuánto "and "por qué". what, who, where, when, how, how much y why.
These structures are essential for asking for information and having basic conversations: "¿Cómo te llamas?", "¿Dónde vives?", "¿Cuánto cuesta?" or "¿Qué estudias?"
A1 grammar is not just about learning rules. The goal is to use these structures to communicate in simple everyday situations.
By the end of this level, you should be able to use basic phrases to introduce yourself, talk about your family, express your likes and dislikes, describe people and places, talk about your daily routine and ask for simple information.
To improve your Spanish at the A1 level, it's important to combine grammar study with frequent practice. You don't need to master absolutely every A1 structure before you start working on some A2 content. However, you should feel comfortable using basic A1 grammar and understanding simple everyday phrases and expressions. You can use our exercises to check which topics you've mastered and take our A2 Spanish level test to get an additional indication of your current level.
